Supporting young people through Bolton Lads and Girls Club

I recently had the opportunity to become a trustee on the board at Bolton Lads and Girls Club (BLGC), and I’m delighted to say that I took up that opportunity with enthusiasm.

I have a particular passion for the wellbeing of young people in our town.

That passion is echoed tenfold by the Lads and Girls Club, and it is their commitment to providing a safe place for young people to develop and grow in confidence that attracted me to the role.

As well as being one of the largest youth clubs in the UK, BLGC invests a lot of time and effort in special projects that help young people with mental, physical and social skills.

One such project they’re involved with is the Bolton Thrive Alliance, which incidentally is commissioned by the CCG and delivered by Bolton CVS – another valuable partner.

The Lads and Girls Club is one of a number of local organisations which contribute to this worthwhile programme aimed at helping children and young people with their mental health needs.

The club provides workshops for people aged between eight and 21 years old, exploring emotional health and wellbeing, seeking advice, obtaining the right help, raising awareness and signposting to local services.

Mental health and being able to access the right support without fear of being stigmatized is such an important issue, and in Bolton we are fortunate to have such supportive organisations that can dedicate their expertise to schemes like this.

They are also a ‘Safe Zone’ as part of the Greater Manchester Crisis Care Pathway which means they will provide a safe space for young people experiencing mental health crisis and be able to offer expert advice and support.

I for one am relishing the opportunity to work more closely with the club and the young people of Bolton.
