Get your Covid-19 jab while bagging a bargain

26/11/21

People hitting the shops for a bargain this Black Friday weekend are being urged to get their Covid-19 jab at the same time.

There are several walk-in vaccination sites across the borough where you can get your jab without an appointment.

Some are close to popular retail spots so you can pop-in while out shopping.

If you are heading into Bolton town centre, there is a vaccination clinic in Market Place Shopping Centre. It’s on the ground floor in the former Index store.

There are also walk-in clinics at a Bolton Wanderers Football Club, which is next to Middlebrook Leisure and Retail Park, and Breightmet Health Centre opposite Breightmet Retail Park. Horwich RMI Club is an option for those heading to Horwich town centre.

Weather permitting, the vaccination bus will be at Asda Burnden Park from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, December 4.

People aged 16 and over can hop on for their first and second doses, plus booster if eligible. The bus has wheelchair access.

The bus was also due to be at Asda Farnworth from 10am to 4pm tomorrow (Saturday, December 27); however, the Met Office has issued a weather warning for high winds and the decision has been taken to cancel this to ensure patient safety.

All of Bolton’s walk-in vaccination clinics for the week ahead are offering first and second doses for over-16s. Some are also offering first doses for 12-15 year olds who must be accompanied by a parent/carer to give consent.

Under-18s who have had coronavirus should wait 12 weeks from testing positive before getting their vaccination.

Eligible people can get their booster jab at some walk-in clinics if it has been at least six months since their second dose. People with a weakened immune system can also get their 3rd dose at some clinics if they take along their NHS invitation letter.

Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for the Covid-19 vaccination programme in Bolton, said: “Many people are busy getting ready for the festive season so it’s easy to forget about getting your Covid-jab amid all the preparations.

“It’s is going to be one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year so if you’re out bargain hunting, please take the opportunity to get your Covid-19 jab as well – it’s the best way of protecting yourself, your family and your friends from the virus over Christmas and New Year.

“All 16 and 17 year olds can now get a second dose of the vaccine if it’s been at least 12 weeks since their first dose – thanks to those who have already come forward. Those aged 12-15 who missed the opportunity to get vaccinated at school can also attend certain walk-in clinics with a parent for a first dose.

“Booster jabs, to top up immunity, have also been extended to include over-40s who had their second dose at least six months ago.

“Remember – it’s never too late to get vaccinated if you haven’t already done so. If you have any questions at all, please pop along to one of Bolton clinics and have a chat to the staff.

“Our walk-in clinics offer lots of choice so check out the dates, times and locations to see what’s most convenient for you.”
